Featured Interview With Author Berthille Metoua

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?

I was born in Ivory Coast and have called New York home for about 30 years. My career has been anything but a straight line. I started out as a model, then went back to school and earned a master’s degree in communication, and even hosted my own broadcast channel as a student. I spent years as a social worker supporting people facing addiction and intellectual disabilities, and I’ve also worked in real estate and as a loan officer. Today, I’m a full-time training professional and educator. Every chapter of that journey taught me something about people, confidence and grace, and it all found its way into my book. No pets at the moment. My last one passed away, and I’m not ready for another just yet.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve loved books for as long as I can remember, but I never imagined writing would become my work. After I lost my husband, writing became my refuge, and I simply never stopped. I wanted to put everything I’d learned into a book to share it. And this is only the beginning. Self-help is just one side of me, and I have a love story on the way.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read mostly self-help, because I believe we all need to keep growing, and growth is my first curiosity. But my all-time favorite is Molière’s Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme. I love how it shows that true class can’t be bought or faked. It comes from within. What inspires my writing is life itself: being alone, every situation I’ve lived through, and every change I’ve faced. Life is full of changes. I’m big on helping people, and keeping what I’ve learned to myself just wouldn’t feel fair.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The ABCs of Classy: A Journey to Confidence, Self-Love & Transformation is the book I wish I’d had when life knocked me down. After losing both my parents and my husband, I had to rebuild myself from the ground up. I learned that class isn’t something you’re born with. It’s built, one choice at a time.
The book takes you through 26 A-to-Z lessons on confidence, style, manners, body language, money mindset, relationships and protecting your peace, with real-life scripts you can use right away. It took me about three years to write, and it’s designed so you can open it at any letter and find what you need that day.

For a limited time, the ebook is just $0.99. My hope is that every reader finishes it feeling more elegant, more empowered and more like themselves.
